This workshop will examine the “push” factors that led European Jews to seek refuge outside of Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. It will focus on pull and “push-back” factors regarding five countries in Latin America, using primary source documents from the archives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Participants will better understand the global impact of the Holocaust, international responses to the refugee crisis of the 1930s and 1940s, and methods for teaching about both.
