UAB Visiting Artist Lecture, Featuring David Kassan of the EDUT Project
The EDUT Project tells the stories of Holocaust survivors through paintings, written profiles, and films. Visual artist David Kassan, journalist Dan Maccarone, and filmmaker Chloe Lee collaborate to creatively share these inspiring stories.
From November 12-16, artist David Kassan will be in residence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as part of UAB’s biennial print atelier program of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History. He will be creating a limited-edition print portrait of local Holocaust survivor, Dr. Robert May.
Kassan will work on the print through the week and give a lecture at Temple Beth-El at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15. His lecture will focus on “The EDUT Project” and his work while artist-in-residence. The lecture will also coincide with remembrance of the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, when Nazis in Germany torched synagogues, vandalized Jewish homes, schools, and businesses.
A coffee and dessert reception will follow.
