About the Event

After hearing Daryl Davis speak at “To Life” L’Chaim, many of you wanted more and we heard you! Join us on October 15th as we resume our Taking Action Together series for a virtual conversation with Daryl Davis. Our Taking Action Together series aims to give you at least one thing that can help you take action in your everyday life.

In this installment, musician and race relations expert Daryl Davis will speak about his 40 years’ worth of experience having ongoing dialogues with KKK members, neo-Nazis, and other hateful extremists. Wanting to understand what would drive someone to these dangerous ideologies, Daryl sought an answer to the following question: “How can you hate me when you don’t even know me?” As a result of these discussions, over 200 people have now left these hateful movements because of their conversations with Daryl.

In this webinar, Davis will show you how employing the power of conversation in your daily life can help to challenge prejudice and build bridges across seemingly impossible divides. You will also get the chance to ask Daryl questions, and he will answer them live during the Q&A portion.

Daryl Davis

Daryl Davis believes that every missed opportunity for dialogue is a missed opportunity for conflict-resolution. Davis is an American R&B musician, leader of The Daryl Davis Band, and has performed with musicians such as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tina Turner, and others.

For the past forty years, Daryl has been engaging in active dialogues with members of the KKK, neo-Nazis, and other hateful movements to better understand what would draw someone to these ideologies. As a result of their conversations with Daryl, over 200 people have renounced these hateful ideas and relinquished their Klan robes and other memorabilia over to him as a symbolic transition away from their dark past.

Through his experiences engaging with members of hate groups, Daryl Davis exemplifies the power of conversation to overcome divisions and foster understanding. His story serves as a powerful example of how individuals can challenge prejudice, break down barriers, and build meaningful connections across lines of difference.
