General Public
The Alabama Holocaust Education Center is open to the public.
In our newly created 8300 Sq foot Center, through innovative storytelling, interactive experiences, and genuine artifacts, you will witness the strength and courage of the human spirit set against the backdrop of one of the darkest chapters in human history.
The entry exhibit space showcases images of the prosperous and comfortable lives families enjoyed before in pre-World War II in Europe. The main exhibit, Darkness into Life, a gallery of art and photography, offers a special glimpse into the private Shoah (Holocaust) memoirs of 20 Alabama Holocaust Survivors, revealing stories of childhoods, past, lost family and friends, dispair and sadness, cruelty beyond belief, bravery, joys of liberation, and new lives in Alabama.
Through bold and thought-provoking images accompanied by authentic narratives, you will gain a richer understanding of the history of the Holocaust and its impact on these individuals and their families.
We’re open for visitors from 10 am to 3 pm on Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Admission is free, but does require making an appointment. Your donations are always appreciated.
Our visits are limited to twenty people at a time, ensuring a private, meaningful experience. Please contact us if you would like to bring a larger grouop.
Whether you’re curious about Holocaust history, exploring Birmingham’s cultural institutions, or helping to educate the next generation, we welcome your visit. Come tour our permanent exhibit, browse our library, and learn from our staff.
Large Groups
Our center also invites larger visits, from classroom field trips to specialized group tours. With a team of eighteen trained docents, we’re thrilled to customize your visit for a group of any size.
We believe that diversity enriches our community and we promote a welcoming sense of belonging where every individual voice is heard, valued, and respected.
Please email us at info@ahecinfo.org with details about your group so we can customize your experience.
We look forward to learning with you!
