Immerse yourself in our permanent or traveling exhibit to understand one of the most important lessons of our time.

From Darkness Into Life

Our permanent exhibit, Darkness into Life, tells the powerful stories of 20 Holocaust Survivors who made Alabama their home. Created by photographer Becky Seitel and painter Mitzi J. Levin, the exhibit combines 78 evocative photographs and original oil paintings to trace each Survivor’s journey—from childhood in eight different countries, through the trauma of the Holocaust, to rebuilding life in the United States.

This deeply personal and educational experience includes maps, life documents, and visual storytelling that bring history to life in a meaningful way.

You can explore Darkness into Life in person at our Center or request it as a traveling exhibit for your school, institution, or community space.
