Holocaust Remembrance Day

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed globally each year on January 27, marking the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and killing center in 1945. Established by the United Nations in 2005, this day honors the memory of the six million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust, along with the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution.

At the Alabama Holocaust Education Center, we commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a meaningful public program that brings together Holocaust Survivors, descendants, educators, students, and community members. The events feature historical reflections, personal testimony, and moments of remembrance that encourage thoughtful dialogue and collective responsibility.

This day serves not only as a memorial, but also as a call to action to confront antisemitism, challenge hatred, and promote human rights in our communities and around the world.
