Virtual Field Trip for Students
Students will hear Ben’s firsthand testimony, as he speaks live, to explore Nazi persecution, the experiences of Jewish children in hiding, resistance and rescue, individual choices, and the lasting human impact of the Holocaust.
After the presentation, Ben will answer student questions.
Through Ben Benninga’s firsthand testimony, students will:
- Experience history through a child’s eyes as Ben shares what it was like to be separated from his parents and survive the Holocaust in seven different hiding places.
- Explore courage, resistance, and rescue through the ordinary people who risked their lives to hide Ben and help his family survive.
- Use Survivor testimony as historical evidence, bringing required classroom learning to life through a powerful primary source.
- Evaluate the human consequences of the Holocaust and liberation as students consider the lasting impact of persecution, separation, survival, and rebuilding a life after the Holocaust.
About the Speakers
Ben Benninga
Born in 1934 in Enschede, Holland, Ben Benninga and his family lived a quiet life until the Germans invaded on May 10, 1940. Ben was just seven years old when he was separated from his parents and forced into hiding during the Holocaust. Over the next three years and two months, Ben lived in seven different hiding places in the Netherlands, protected by courageous individuals who risked their own lives to save his. Today, Ben shares his remarkable firsthand story of childhood, survival, rescue, liberation, and the lasting impact of those who chose to help.
