Lisa Bachman is the Executive Director of the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. She is responsible for fiscal management, oversight of all community and school-based programming, and leads the charge as the AHEC’s chief storyteller.

Amy McDonald
Education Consultant
Amy McDonald is the Director of Education at the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. Before joining the Center, she taught at Shades Valley High School for 28 years. Amy has been recognized widely for her expertise in Holocaust education. She is an Alfred Lerner Fellow and recipient of the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous Robert I. Goldman Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education. In 2014, Amy was formally recognized as a Teacher Fellow of the USHMM. Amy is also the author of two books: Determined to Survive, which describes the experiences of Birmingham-area Holocaust survivor Max Steinmetz, and Word Smugglers: A Story of Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto.

Haley Wells
Program Manager
Haley is the Program Manager of the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. She is responsible for managing the Center’s general programs, including “Taking Action Together,” its Film Series, and all Holocaust Commemoration programs. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, she is a 2024 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Karli Morris
Education Specialist
Karli Morris is an education specialist for the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. She assists with program coordination, helps manage the center’s social media, and creates educational toolkits for use in classrooms. Prior to joining AHEC, Karli taught English Language Arts in both Kansas and Alabama. Utilizing her master’s degree in teaching and leadership with an emphasis in Holocaust education, she aims to provide Alabama teachers with the pedagogy necessary to most effectively impart the lessons of the Holocaust.

Caleb Burnett
Administrative Assistant
Caleb Burnett is the Administrative Assistant for the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. He provides various types of administrative support and event coordination to ensure efficient office operations and the continued success of AHEC programming. A native of Hayden, Alabama, he is a 2023 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned a degree in History and Political Science with a minor in Art History. He is excited to share in the AHEC’s mission for a more just and compassionate society through the promotion of Holocaust education.

As an Applied Researcher, Ann works with online records, national, International Holocaust institutions and archives, and survivor’s family members to uncover the story of their loved ones’ journey during the Holocaust.
