Amy McDonald is the Director of Education at the Alabama Holocaust Education Center. Before joining the Center, she taught at Shades Valley High School for 28 years. Amy has been recognized widely for her expertise in Holocaust education. She is an Alfred Lerner Fellow and recipient of the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous Robert I. Goldman Award for Excellence in Holocaust Education. In 2014, Amy was formally recognized as a Teacher Fellow of the USHMM. Amy is also the author of two books: Determined to Survive, which describes the experiences of Birmingham-area Holocaust survivor Max Steinmetz, and Word Smugglers: A Story of Resistance in the Warsaw Ghetto.
