The Alabama Holocaust Education Center (AHEC)
To Life, L’Chaim! The Power of Conversation,
Tuesday, September 10, 2024
“The greatest weapon we have to combat antisemitism, racism, any kind of discrimination, is the least expensive, the most effective and the most underused. And it’s free! It’s conversation.”
We invite you to partner with us as we host a completely new, one-of-a-kind event designed to evoke a strong sense of connection, empathy and community. We will demonstrate how the lessons from the Holocaust can create powerful transformation.
As an event partner, you will help AHEC expand statewide educational services and community programming, empower teachers and students, improve school climates, and help our community guard against prejudice and indifference.
With your help, we can replace ignorance and bigotry with knowledge and understanding.
Every dollar has impact:
- $100 enables a teacher to attend a workshop
- $300 sends an AHEC instructor to a school to educate 100-150 students in a single day
- $500 provides a bus to bring 30-80 students to AHEC for a powerful field trip
- $1,000 supports a teacher scholarship for advanced, professional development
- $5,000 can send an educator overseas for a life-changing Holocaust Studies experience
Your investment at work:
- Educational Toolkit Upgrades. Your investment helps us identify the best resources for meaningful, lasting Holocaust education, including lesson plans, multimedia materials and interactive activities. We are researching technologies to support accessible learning environments and expand our online resources and tools. And we provide training and support for teachers to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms and leverage online platforms for collaboration, discussion and assessment.
- Student Ambassador Program. Your investment will help us establish a student ambassador team to raise awareness about the lessons of the Holocaust, antisemitism and all forms of prejudice and bigotry, promoting tolerance and inclusivity. We plan to recruit passionate and motivated students who are committed to combating hate speech and discrimination, providing training and resources to empower student ambassadors to organize events, lead discussions and educate their peers about the Holocaust and its lessons, and the consequences of antisemitism and bigotry – enacting positive change.
- Learning through Theater. Your investment will help us create a theatrical program that can be licensed to high school theater departments, small community theaters and other Holocaust Centers. This moving performance will bring to life the stories of composers who perished in the Holocaust, and provide AHEC with a new, ongoing revenue stream.
- Virtual Reality. Your investment will help us incorporate virtual reality into AHEC’s exploration of the Holocaust, engaging students and other visitors in a powerfully dynamic way.
Partnership Opportunities
In addition to an appearing at L’Chaim, To Life, Daryl Davis will be speaking with Tamara Meyer (daughter of Holocaust Survivors) and Arno Michaelis (former neo-Nazi skinhead) throughout the week of the event at UAB, Samford University and area high schools and middle schools.
