mining what is truth and what is deliberate deception is more difficult than ever. To gain some clarity on the media landscape and current challenges posed by misinformation and inciting speech, our speakers will discuss two historical examples of propaganda and hate
speech in the twentieth century.
Jonathan Wiesen will explore how propaganda worked in Nazi-
controlled Europe and offer visual and linguistic examples of xenophobia and anti-Jewish stereotyping. Jordan Kiper will discuss hate propaganda in the Balkans in the 1990s and explore hate speech – and dangerous speech –associated with ongoing debates regarding the ideology of collective violence and mass atrocity crimes.

! Join us on October 15th as we resume our Taking Action Together series for a virtual conversation with Daryl Davis. Our Taking Action Together series aims to give you at least one thing that can help you take action in your everyday life.
In this installment, musician and race relations expert Daryl Davis will speak about his 40 years’ worth of experience having ongoing dialogues with KKK members, neo-Nazis, and other hateful extremists. Wanting to understand what would drive someone to these dangerous ideologies, Daryl sought an answer to the following question: “How can you hate me when you don’t even know me?” As a result of these discussions, over 200 people have now left these hateful movements because of their conversations with Daryl.
In this webinar, Davis will show you how employing the power of conversation in your daily life can help to challenge prejudice and build bridges across seemingly impossible divides. You will also get the chance to ask Daryl questions, and he will answer them live during the Q&A portion.

Center for Nonviolent Communication addresses the issue of rising antisemitism in the world today. She will also provide you with real-world tools you can use to take action against all forms of hatred.
This webinar is broken into two parts. In the first part, Dr. Kauschat addresses how those who are the target of antisemitism or have experienced antisemitism can practice self-empathy and self-empowerment. Then, in the second part of the webinar, she addresses how self-empathy, and self-empowerment can serve as a foundation for speaking out against antisemitism and other forms of hatred. She discusses how we can each be upstanders and, in particular, how we can stand up for our needs with those who do not agree with us, while also listening to and being empathetic to their own needs.
Learn how to use the power of empathetic listening alongside the power of conversation to combat hatred and foster reconciliation.
