Taking Action Together: “Empathy in Action: Tools for Combatting Antisemitism and Hatred” with Dr. Irmtraud Kauschat
In our latest installment of Taking Action Together, Dr. Irmtraud Kauschat of the Marshall Rosenberg Center for Nonviolent Communication will address the issue of rising antisemitism in the world today. She will also provide you with real-world tools you can use to take action against all forms of hatred.
This webinar will be broken into two parts. In the first part, Dr. Kauschat will address how those who are the target of antisemitism or have experienced antisemitism can practice self-empathy and self-empowerment. Then, in the second part of the webinar, she will address how self-empathy, and self-empowerment can serve as a foundation for speaking out against antisemitism and other forms of hatred. She will discuss how we can each be upstanders and, in particular, how we can stand up for our needs with those who do not agree with us, while also listening to and being empathetic to their own needs.
Join us and learn how to use the power of empathetic listening alongside the power of conversation to combat hatred and foster reconciliation. This Zoom event is free but requires registration in advance. Click the button below to save your spot and receive the webinar link today!

About Our Speaker:
Dr. Irmtraud Kauschat is a certified trainer with Marshall Rosenberg’s Center for Nonviolent Communication. A native German, Irmtraud grew up in Germany witnessing the guilt and shame many Germans felt about their history. As she learned about nonviolent communication, she also learned how to differentiate between shame and responsibility. Driven by that sense of responsibility, she chose to teach nonviolent communication in regions of conflict like Israel/Palestine, Kenya, Ukraine, and Somalia to support reconciliation and social change. It is important for her to contribute to a world where everybody’s needs matter.
When she heard Marshall Rosenberg talk about his experiences in Israel/Palestine, she was enthusiastic about the impact of nonviolent communication on people’s lives. She became dedicated to a vision of bringing peace and reconciliation to war-torn countries across the world. She has served as part of an international trainer-team that held 9-day seminars for Israelis, Palestinians, and international participants for 4 years. She has also worked to use nonviolent communication to foster peace and healing in Ukraine, and she continues to work for peace there, despite the ongoing war.
Today, Irmtraud teaches nonviolent communication in many nations across the world. She is dedicated to using nonviolent communication to address social issues like antisemitism, racism, and xenophobia. Through nonviolent communication, she hopes to empower those who are the victims of hate to cultivate self-love and self-advocacy, and she hopes to encourage everyone to be an upstander for peace, reconciliation, and healing.
