Steven Field, MD, is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, and member of the Affiliate Faculty in the Division of Medical Ethics, both at New York University School of Medicine. A graduate of Yale College, where he received the John Addison Porter Prize in American History, and NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Field also holds a certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from the NYU-Montefiore program and a certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy of Adults from the Institute for Psychoanalytic Education (formerly the NYU-Downstate Psychoanalytic Institute). He was in clinical practice in Manhattan until he assumed the position of Clinical Ethics Consultant at NYU Langone Health, where he teaches, does clinical ethics consultations, and is Physician Leader of the institution’s Schwartz Center Rounds program. His current area of interest is the history of science and medicine in twentieth-century Germany, specifically in relation to eugenics and the origins of the Holocaust, and its ethical implications for today.
